Story About Linemen
Haines was 24 years old when he wrote SLIM, yet he’d been a lineman for 7 years. Around 1926 the Haines family became victims of the Great Depression. His first years were in building transmission lines, as far west as Colorado and Arizona. In 1930 he started working as a catenary lineman, in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, on the electrification of the Pennsylvania Railroad.
