Circuit breakers are automatically operating safety switches which operate by measuring heat or current flowing through the circuit. If that exceeds a pre-set limit, they ‘trip’ and sever the electricity supply as quickly as possible. Unlike fuses, once the fault has been rectified, they don’t require replacing and can simply be reset.
